Domestic Workers

Domestic workers play a vital role in maintaining households and supporting families, yet their contributions often go unrecognized. Our initiative aims to bring visibility, dignity, and empowerment to domestic workers through awareness programs, capacity-building activities, and policy advocacy. The gallery below showcases key moments from our journey—highlighting field visits, training sessions, and celebrations that honor and support the rights of domestic workers
Empowering domestic workers through rights awareness, capacity-building, and collective organizing. TNDWWT strengthens their voices in advocacy, policy-making, and climate resilience, fostering a united, informed community. By mobilizing and educating workers, we enable leadership from within and promote long-term social and economic justice for domestic workers.

TNDWWT supports domestic workers in enrolling with the Tamil Nadu Domestic Workers’ Welfare Board, helping them access social security schemes such as health insurance, pensions, and education aid. This initiative ensures formal recognition, legal awareness, and stronger protection, while promoting their rights through continued engagement with government departments and stakeholders.

TNDWWT is driving policy advocacy through state-level consultations, bringing together policymakers, employers, and civil society to discuss key issues like wage hikes, safety laws, and pension increases for domestic workers. These efforts aim to foster dialogue, raise awareness, and promote collaborative solutions for stronger protection and formal recognition.

TNDWWT’s capacity-building trainings equip domestic workers with knowledge of legal rights, leadership skills, financial literacy, mental well-being, and entrepreneurship. The sessions also address gender-based violence and community safety. These trainings foster resilience, boost confidence, and empower workers to become independent leaders and active advocates within their communities.

TNDWWT is promoting economic empowerment by providing domestic workers with hands-on skill training in areas such as pickle making, juice making, malt and health mix preparation, and silk thread bangle making. These trainings enhance self-reliance, create income opportunities, and support domestic workers in building financially independent and sustainable livelihoods.

TNDWWT is promoting financial independence among domestic workers by providing seed funding to help them start small businesses such as petty shops and local enterprises. This support has enabled many women to launch successful ventures, fostering entrepreneurship and marking a vital step toward economic empowerment and self-reliance.

TNDWWT marks key observances like Domestic Workers' Day, Decent Work Day, International Women’s Day, and the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls. These events raise awareness, highlight challenges, foster solidarity, and strengthen efforts for rights, recognition, and social protection.

TNDWWT supports elderly domestic workers by facilitating access to welfare schemes, healthcare, and social security benefits. Skill training in handmade crafts and small-scale production enhances their income opportunities, promoting financial independence, dignity, and lifelong learning to ensure care and security during their later years.

TNDWWT enhances domestic workers’ health through regular check-ups, eye screenings, cancer awareness, and tests for blood pressure, sugar, and infections. The program also promotes hygiene education and healthy habits, ensuring early detection and better well-being by providing essential healthcare resources tailored to domestic workers’ needs.

TNDWWT actively observes the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to December 10 (Human Rights Day). Through signature campaigns, rallies, handprint activities, and awareness sessions, the campaign highlights the urgent need to end violence against women and girls, promotes safety, and strengthens community engagement for gender justice.
