In West Mambalam, children observed that their school’s main entrance opened onto a busy road with no proper pedestrian crossing. Many students, especially younger ones, were at risk every day while crossing the street.Taking up this concern, the Children’s Parliament drafted a petition requesting the installation of a zebra crossing. They collected signatures from parents and teachers and submitted the petition to the local municipal office.
The local authorities responded positively. Within a few weeks, a zebra crossing was painted in front of the school, and appropriate signage was also installed. Now, children can cross the road safely. Parents, teachers, and motorists alike appreciated the initiative. This success proves that safety concerns raised by children can lead to concrete action when voices are united and directed through proper channels.
