Mrs. Jaya Chitra is a 28-year-old woman who has worked as a domestic worker for the past 5 years. She lives in Perumbakkam with her husband, an auto driver, and two young children studying in 5th and 1st grade.
During the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, her husband couldn’t work, and she also lost her job temporarily due to the employer’s fear of the virus and lack of transport. The lockdown caused a severe financial crisis for her family — they struggled with rent, electricity, and her children’s education. They couldn’t attend online classes due to lack of access to technology.
Fortunately, as a member of the Tamil Nadu Domestic Workers Welfare Trust (TNDWWT), she was informed about the seed money scheme. After submitting the required documents, she received ₹9,500.
With this, she started a small grocery store selling flour, vegetables, oil, masala powders, and more. Her dream is to give her family a stable life. TNDWWT helped her become a proud woman entrepreneur during tough times.
